Beijing is the academic and policy centre of China's AI programme.

Beijing concentrates the largest cluster of Chinese frontier labs - Zhipu AI, MoonShot (Kimi), Baichuan, and 01.AI all have major Beijing operations. Tsinghua University's CS department feeds the talent pipeline and spawned many of these labs. Baidu's Wenxin (ERNIE) programme and Microsoft Research Asia anchor the larger-company side. Government coordination through the Ministry of Science and Technology is close.
